Not Scared

Text & illustrations by Kristina Radkevich

This book is created in the art of embroidery, where stitching is not just a technique but the very heart of the story. It explores how the creative process can help us confront our fears and transform darkness into light.

The story follows a young girl who discovers a tangled ball of thread, which she sees as a reflection of her own chaotic thoughts. At first, she is afraid to unravel it, overwhelmed by her fears. But then, she threads a needle, closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and begins to stitch. With each careful movement, the chaos and fear start to take shape, becoming something kinder and even beautiful.
As she overcomes her initial fears, the girl gains the courage to tackle greater challenges. She transforms a dark, foreboding cave into a blooming garden, stitching flowers into existence. Just when it seems there’s nothing left to fear, a monster appears! But the girl knows what to do. She creates decorations from her threads, and the once-menacing monster becomes something far less frightening. Through her creativity, the girl builds a wondrous new world where even the scariest things can become friends.
